Origin: Temperley is from Somerset. She now lives in Notting Hill, London.
Career highlight: “Still being around and independent.”
Design background: Temperley studied at Central Saint Martins, followed by a Masters at Royal College of Art. She consulted for eight months for Ratti in Como before setting up her own label.
How would you describe the Temperley London woman?
“A sexy, strong, well travelled and confident woman. She knows her own identity but yet is comfortable enough to experiment with different styles and shapes.”
Three autumn/winter 2012 inspirations: “Paintings and portraits from the beginning of the Renaissance movement, rich damask textures, tapestries and wallpapers with ornate jewel-tone colour palettes and elaborate gilt carvings and sculpture.”
What does 2012 hold for your brand?
“The collections have grown and evolved just as we have as a company. Temperley London has a much more sophisticated, streamlined shape and ALICE by Temperley has found its signature. Our bridal line has grown to now being a wholesale collection, and will be available worldwide, which we are very excited about. We have a lot of exciting new announcements throughout this year.”
What is your favourite decade in fashion?
“I have a magpie approach to design and like mixing different eras and influences – anything from the renaissance era, Victorian fashion, twenties and seventies.”
Where do you go in London to seek artistic inspiration?
“The V&A with its amazing history and varied collections - I love the jewellery and costume areas and load up my book collection in the book shop. Also Portobello Road in Notting Hill: the market is the best on Fridays and I love the arcades early in the mornings - 6am on Saturdays are best, with the real traders. Despite being a huge tourist attraction, it is still a real market and best as it gets light.”
