Career highlight: “There have been a few. Being awarded an OBE was a real highlight as was receiving the ‘Designer of The Year’ award earlier in my career.”
Design background: Conran started his own label at the age of 19 and was among the first group of designers to show at London Fashion Week. He studied at Parsons in New York.
Design signatures: “Timeless, contemporary British style.”
How would you describe the Jasper Conran woman?
“Anyone who finds pleasure in my work.”
Autumn/winter 2012 inspirations: “The purity of cut in the archive of some of the greatest couturiers of this century has been an inspiration. The simplicity of the shape has also inspired texture in many guises.”
What does 2012 hold for your brand?
“I am releasing a new format of my book Country in the latter half of 2012 and alongside that I am working on my second book – I’m afraid I cannot divulge the subject matter yet. In April, J by Jasper Conran Gold will be launched. This is a range of signature pieces designed for special occasions which will be sold alongside the existing J by Jasper Conran womenswear collection. Finally, I am launching two new ranges of ceramics for the Jasper Conran at Wedgwood collection – coloured baroque and blue chinoiserie.”
What is your favourite decade in fashion?
“I don’t have a favourite as such. I find different things from different times that both inspire and enchant.”
Where do you go in London to seek artistic inspiration?
“Often it’s about seeing someone with a unique style or stance rather than going out to seek something.”
