Origin: “I was born in London but made in New York!”
Career highlight: “Being nominated for an award is a wonderful recognition of all the hard work the Mulberry team put in, and when Mulberry won Designer Brand of the Year Award at the British Fashion Awards in 2010 that was a career highlight for all of us!”
How would you describe your ideal customer?
“Anyone who loves authentic, practical, long-lasting product and appreciates our classic English heritage no matter where they are. Our customers have a playful edge and appreciate our mix of irreverence, fun, friendliness, warmth, familiarity and sometimes whimsical message!”
Trademark piece: “We’ve had many trademark pieces over the years - the Bayswater, the Alexa - but this season it’s all about our new families and we’re very excited! Stay tuned!”
What does 2012 hold for your brand?
“2012 will be a busy year for Mulberry with more international expansion, more music, more fabulous parties and of course more gorgeous product!”
What is your favourite decade in fashion?
“I loved the era when Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent ruled the roost. They created the majority of influences we all use today – the defining era of ‘classic’.”
Where do you go in London to seek artistic inspiration?
“I love London, returning to England after living in New York for so long was very exciting! I find inspiration in all things quintessentially English: the architecture, the eclectic mix of people, the traditions of English life and institutions like Claridge's Hotel with its art deco splendour. I love the timeless glamour of the hotel, the over-the-top Englishness of afternoon tea in the lobby! Classic craftsmanship and the attention to detail tailoring of the countryside also inspire all of our products season after season - all in all, Britain is a great place to be and to find inspiration.
